Assessment Plan
Issues in Immigration PSA Video Project:
Students will apply concepts learned in both Social Studies and English to plan and design a group public service announcement video. In this video students will choose and focus on an issue in immigration and create a video which educates others on their chosen issue and offers suggestions on how people can make a difference. In Mr. Jensen's class students will choose their issue and do independent research in order to develop a solution. In Ms. Bevers' class students will learn about persuasive argument and how script their videos to best influence others to act. Students will share their videos with each other during Mr. Jensen's class and will also publish their videos onto You-Tube.
Community Service Project:
Students will become active in a local charity or political organization pertaining to any issue they or their fellow students present on. In Ms. Bevers class students will research local charities and organizations and decide in their small groups which one they want to support and how they will support them. For example homelessness is a major issue among the immigrant community and several groups may decide on helping a local homeless shelter by running a clothing or food drive on campus.
